The Top 10 Coolest Things PR People Have Done for Me
by Barbara Horwitz-Bennett

One of the things I really like about my role as a contributing writer to several design and construction publications is the many mutually beneficial relationships I enjoy with dozens of PR professionals.

While the PR crew appreciates the exposure I sometimes bring to their firms or clients, on my end, they make my job easier by connecting me with interview sources for the assorted articles I am constantly writing.

Generally speaking, I’m happy to report that the vast majority of these people are real professionals. However, there are a number of things that stand out in my mind as times when my PR friends have really gone above and beyond the call of duty.

In tribute to these fine folks, I now present you with my top 10 list of the coolest things PR people have ever done for me.

1) When their own firm or client doesn’t have the expertise to offer on a particular topic, they suggest sources from other companies.

2) Not only do they recommend colleagues but they proactively connect me with those professionals.

3) They take the time to offer feedback and/or appreciation once an article featuring their project or quoting their designer has been published.

4) They provide high-resolution, professional photos WITH captions.

5) They follow my professional activities and pitch me at appropriate times.

6) If their client or colleague drops the ball and retracts an interview, they take the time to sincerely apologize.

7) In addition to apologizing, they send me background information and links to articles on the topic I’m researching.

8) They constantly respond to my e-mails in a timely manner.

9) They express interest, when appropriate, in my family life.

10) They recommend me as a ghostwriter to colleagues or as a potential freelancer to other publications.

Keep up the great work!
